Swissmedic oversees the entire lifecycle of a medicine due to its legal responsibilities in the areas of approval, authorization, and monitoring of therapeutic products.
Since 2023, the Innovation Office of Swissmedic, in collaboration with CSEM and the Life Science Cluster Basel, offers uncomplicated expert consultations for the area of ATMPs (Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products). 

As per of 2026 Swissmedic is expanding its informal advisory services to the following areas:

Scientific Advice for GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) or GDP (Good Distribution Practices) and discussions on regulatory aspects of possible business models
Scientific Advice focusing on the quality assurance of pharmaceuticals
Innovative manufacturing processes (AI, decentralized production, and platforms)

Experts from Swissmedic come to Allschwil approximately once a quarter. On-site at CSEM in Allschwil.
